What is the Infernal Cape?
The Infernal Cape is the best-in-slot melee cape in Old School RuneScape, earned by surviving all 69 waves of the Inferno solo and defeating TzKal-Zuk. It is a pure skill check: no drop luck, no group carry — just prayer switching, pillar management and endurance across a run that regularly takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
Requirements before you start
- Fire Cape (TzTok-Jad) completed — Jad mechanics are assumed knowledge.
- 75+ Ranged, ideally 90+, with Rigour unlocked.
- 43+ Prayer for Protect from Missiles and Magic; 70+ for Piety/Rigour.
- A stable connection — a disconnect at wave 60 is a lost run.
Gear setups by account build
Main (Tbow / Blowpipe)
- Twisted bow or Toxic blowpipe (dragon darts)
- Armadyl set or Masori, Pegasian boots, Necklace of anguish
- Ancestral / Ahrim's swap for Zuk shield safety
- Rigour, Augury and Piety unlocked
Zerker (45 Defence)
- Toxic blowpipe with dragon darts as the main damage source
- Karil's top, Blessed chaps, Void or Armadyl helm
- Barrows gloves, Pegasian boots, Anguish
- Ranging potions, Super restores and Saradomin brews
Pure (1 Defence)
- Blowpipe plus a Twisted bow for Jad phases if available
- Void or Crystal set for consistent accuracy
- Bring extra brews — no Defence means far less room for error
- Rigour strongly recommended
Wave-by-wave strategy
Waves 1–8
Learn the spawn map. Kill Bats (Jal-MejRah) first, then Blobs (Jal-Ak), then Melee (Jal-ImKot). Practise safespotting behind the pillars in the south-east corner and keep your prayer switches sharp.
Waves 9–34
Ranger (Jal-Xil) and Mager (Jal-Zek) pairs appear. Always kill Magers first — their healing on other monsters snowballs runs. Rotate pillars before they collapse rather than after.
Waves 35–56
Triple spawns and the first Jad (Jal-TokJad) at wave 67 approach. Bank prayer points here, keep brews above 4 and stack safespots so you never take Mager and Ranger damage at once.
Wave 67 — Jad
One Jad with healers. Pray against the attack animation, not the projectile. Clear healers fast with the blowpipe, then finish Jad from a pillar.
Wave 68 — Triple Jad
The biggest run-ender. Isolate one Jad at a time using the pillars, and never let two attack animations overlap. Most failed capes happen here, not at Zuk.
Wave 69 — TzKal-Zuk
Use the shield to block Zuk's attack, step out to DPS, and step back in time. Handle the Ranger and Mager set spawns, then the Healers (Jal-MejJak) at 480 HP. Freeze or route them away and keep DPS on Zuk.
Practising with an inferno simulator
Before spending real supplies, use an inferno simulator to drill the parts that actually fail runs: pillar rotations, Mager/Ranger prayer flicks and the triple Jad isolation at wave 68. An hour of simulator practice per problem wave is worth more than five blind attempts in-game.
Common mistakes we see
- Killing Rangers before Magers — Magers heal everything else.
- Moving pillars too late, forcing a fight in the open.
- Brewing down Ranged too far and losing DPS at Zuk.
- Panicking on Zuk healers instead of routing them away first.
